The Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater St. Louis is expanding into Ferguson.

The decision to open a site at Ferguson Middle School comes six months after the shooting death of black teenager Michael Brown by a white police officer. Since the killing, residents have stressed there needs to be more opportunities to engage youths, including after-school programs.

Flint Fowler, president of the 48-year-old organization, said having a full-time presence at the school will bring a wide array of opportunities to youths, including tutoring, leadership and character development, and job preparedness programs.
